Savage Beauty: Alexander McQueen Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

No pictures were allowed in the exhibit. So I snagged some from NY Mag and other places.

"There is no way back for me now. I'm going to take you on journeys you've never dreamed were possible."
-Alexander McQueen

The Costume Institute has put on probably this decade's greatest exhibit. Over 100 pieces from the Alexander McQueen collections. Each collection with it's own themed room. Quotes from the master himself placed perfectly in line with each of his works. The exhibit told a story, a darkly romantic story of the life of a true artistic genius. I don't think they could have captured him in a better light.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has had an overwhelming response to the McQueen Exhibit with it's opening weekend being the most successful weekend of any exhibit that has been shown.

"To Die For" can't even express the way this exhibit makes you feel. Dresses made from glass microscope slides, painted red to represent blood. Other dresses made from oyster shells. Jackets with taxodermied alligator heads as shoulder embellishment. Some would say creepy, having seen it, I would say phenomenal.

It brings out a darkness in you. It shows the human side to a genius and a humor to his madness. It shows you how much death really was a part of his inspiration and how fascinated he was by it.

My favorite piece:
Feathers painted gold and hand sewn to the bodice of the dress. The bottom is a silk tulle with gold embroidery. If I ever get married, I am wearing this dress...

My Favorite Story behind a piece:

Amazing. A dance with painting robots produces a fantastic piece of wearable fashion. Who knew. 12 years ago, this piece is still amazing today.

I suggest taking a trip to NYC solely to see this exhibit. It is unbelievable. If you love fashion, culture, art, science, history or anything! This exhibit will inspire you in some way.

And to Mr. McQueen I say this, you stuck to your word. You have taken us to the point of no return. You have changed the world of fashion forever. And for that, we thank you.

xoxo
